Three and Six Productions is the content development Studio responsible for creating
commercial properties using the 3&6 Professional Technology tools. The creation of
digital productions, both video and interactive games, initially using the existing
prototype tools is core to the development of the entire Studio product suite. The
requirements of the production team, working on scheduled professional media for
broadcast and training feeds directly back to the software development teams for
incorporation into product designs. The Production team also act as a first line
testing facility, continuous throughout development.
Rapid development of prototype TV programs, shows for broadcast and animated films
is a key objective for the Studio Suite. The process, shown below, is particularly
suited to ongoing productions with a requirement to respond rapidly to external events
such as real-world news or viewer input or contribution. Assets (component parts)
for a production are created before any ‘shooting’ starts, after which all production
is carried out on the desktop, enabling a skilled director to produce up to ten minutes
of CG animation output per day.
- The production process
- Create sets and locations in Studio Professional or Studio Performer from library
stages and props or purpose built items.
- Create actors and costumes for the roles using Studio Casting.
- Obtain music and sound effect audio assets from 3&6 libraries or imported
- Commission bespoke animation, if required for particular characters or situations.
3&6 provides library animation for many situations.
- Record the dialog for the actors, either in a ‘real’ studio or from within 3&6 Studio
products
- Using the performance editor of either Studio Professional or Studio Performer to
create and refine the action
- Position cameras to capture the performance
- Use the gallery interface to produce a ‘final cut’
- Add titles, subtitles, credits and incidental graphics using the postproduction editor.
- Export to digital video
For series productions steps 1 to 4 should only be required once, steps 5 to 10 are
repeated for each episode.
